Alexandra Marin released her Spring-Summer 2017 Womenswear collection placing herself into the Sports Luxe high-end market. The inspiration behind the collection is her Romanian roots which fed her creativity throughout the season.

 

Romanian heritage encounters modern life forming a new, young, vivid and playful generation who sees forward as well as glimpsing back into the past. The past represents the oasis of initial inspiration, the rich land where everything started and the future is the free spirit who emerged from it. The future sees technology, movement and up-to-date ways of working, however, still embracing pure beauty and values passed on from generation to generation.

 

Shapes are loose and simple, yet feminine, allowing plenty of movement to the wearer, with high tech performance fabrics such as neoprene, latex and airtex cotton (to name a few) replacing the conventional canvas. Prints are bold, featuring mainly primary and secondary colours on white bases, occasionally decorated with intricate hand-embroidery. The motifs, inspired from the traditional Romanian costume, are scaled up covering most of the fabric. The flowy cottons peeking through some of the garments resemble the roots of the past arising to the surface of the modern world.

 

The collection is fun, with the right dose of edginess, a token of respect for the designer’s heritage without shouting it out loud and with emphasis on diversity.
